"With Focus on traditions"
The Markt der Genuesse (Delicacies Market ) at Neustadt’s Herrenhof is the oldest specialities market in southern Germany and has since become a tradition in the region. In 2009 over 50 exhibitors, from food manufacturers and small companies, presented food specialities for the fourteenth time and we welcomed over 2,500 visitors. During the Pentecost’s long weekend, from 22nd to 24th May 2010, the delicacies market will again be offering its visitors the opportunity to inform themselves about the products, taste and purchase them.
A great importance is given to the products’ quality and variety. The selection includes meat and sausages, fresh fish, traditional pastries, dairy products, aromatic herbs and spices and also wines, spirits, tobacco products and a small selection of “healthy” products. In the heart of “Germany’s Tuscany” region, the market naturally offers a taste for Mediterranean specialities, such as homemade pasta, spicy oils and vinegars, and other southern delicacies. If you get appetite from smelling, tasting and looking, you should enjoy the varied range of freshly prepared food: from rustic Palatinate classics through to refined cuisine, as well as good palatinate wines, beers and soft drinks. On Monday, 24h May, 2010 there takes place an unusual wine testing in the festival room: the market expects with a quite special program Hans-Günter Schwarz, the palatine cellar master icon together with 10 palatine winemakers of the federation of German predicate vineyards for a wine testing of selected white and red wines. At 11:45 o`clock and 14:30 o`clock he presents the topics in two talk rounds " 100 years quality viniculture in the palatinate " and " The recent winemaker generation in the palatinate".
The talks are framed by the Gipsy's swing playing group " Wawau Adler " which comes on the occasion of 100 th birthday of the music of Django Reinhardt and they will present their press-fresh CD " Here' s to Django! " To every full hour the trio will play around the well-known German jazz guitarist Wawau Adler a set of 15-20 minutes.
The wine testing with talk and music can be visited against a sample coupon of 5, - euros. The visit of the market is free, like every year before. Over the three–day weekend, there will also be a rich cultural programme: During the day there will be groups with traditional costumes, hunting horn and alphorn musicians, a zither player, several plays for all ages, cabaret and folk, which are all as traditional and local as the food specialities from the Market. In the evenings, the International Palatinate Jazz Festival palatia jazz will be presenting fantastic Jazz stars in the large ballroom of the Herrenhof. The concerts will be accompanied by the Delicacies Market’s fine meals and selected wines. The Markt der Genuesse takes place from 22nd to 24th May (Pentecost) in Neustadt’s Herrenhof and is open from 11am to 8pm. Admission is free.
